Symptoms of B Vitamin Deficiency

Vitamin B1: deficiency is linked to blood sugar imbalances and neuropathy.

Vitamin B2: deficiency symptoms include sores around the mouth and/or swollen tongue.

Vitamin B6: Insufficient amounts of vitamin B6 can result in anemia, skin disorders, depression, confusion, high blood pressure, a susceptibility to infections, high homocysteine, water retention, kidney stones and insomnia. Rash or cracks around the mouth are common deficiency symptoms.

Vitamin B9 or folate: Without enough folate diarrhea or anemia can develop. Pregnant women who are deficient in folate can give birth to babies with neural tube defects. Tingling in hands and feet are common symptoms.

Vitamin B12 deficiencies can lead to anemia and confusion in elderly people. Psychological problems such as dementia, paranoia, depression, and behavioral problems can result from a vitamin B12 deficiency.

Active Co-enzyme Forms of B Vitamins: Most B-complex formulas may have little effect on health because the body has to convert the B-vitamins into their active coenzyme forms in order to utilize them. You have heard the doctor say you are making expensive urine when you take B vitamins. This statement rings true for many people as they are not able to convert common B vitamins into their active coenzyme forms and as such do not absorb the vitamins.

Benefits of B Vitamins

To ensure you get all the activity from your B complex we have designed a B complex formula with the most active coenzyme form of B vitamins in the correct balanced dosage to ensure you can feel the difference.

Vitamin B1 also known as thiamin is needed to convert glucose (sugars) and amino acids (from protein) into energy in the body. Thiamin is used to make red blood cells and maintain muscles. Benfotiamine, the form we use, is the fat-soluble form of thiamin which allows it to be transported across cell membranes and the intestinal wall. Benfotiamine is 5 times better absorbed than conventional thiamine supplements. Benfotiamine reduces advanced glycosylation end products called AGES by 40%. AGES increase with aging and imbalanced blood sugar and diabetes and damage the body and brain. Benfotiamine supports urinary, cognitive, nerves, vision, kidney and hormone function. It has been shown to reduce nerve pain by 50%.

Vitamin B2 also known as riboflavin plays a key role in the conversion of tryptophan to vitamin B3 and the conversion of folate to other forms and the activation of vitamin B6. Riboflavin-5-phosphate is the active form necessary for fat and glucose (sugar) metabolism, manufacture of red blood cells, eliminating migraines and the production of hormones. Riboflavin-5-phosphate is particularly important for healthy skin and eyes.

Vitamin B3 also called niacin is essential for the production of ATP giving us energy, DNA repair, inhibiting (bad) LDL cholesterol, aiding hormone production and detoxifying toxins from the body. Most niacin supplements are in nicotinic acid form, which has been associated with an unpleasant ‘flushing’ effect, causing warming and itching of the skin when taken at optimal doses. Inositol hexanicotinate is the form of niacin used in Bsmart which does not cause flushing and redness of the skin.

Vitamin B5 called pantothenic acid. Vitamin B5 is needed for cellular respiration and energy production. Calcium d-pantothenate is the form of vitamin B5 in Bsmart. Vitamin B5 helps lower total cholesterol levels LDL (bad) cholesterol levels.

Vitamin B6 is most commonly known as pyridoxine, but is made up of three forms, pyridoxal, pyridoxine, and pyridoxamine. Each has a different action in the body’s metabolism of this important vitamin. Pyridoxal-5’-phosphate, (P5P) the form chosen for Bsmart, is the best form of B6 because it is already converted into the coenzyme form necessary for over 100 essential enzymatic reactions in the body. P5P aids amino acid metabolism including tyrosine, glutamine, cysteine and glycine. P5P is required to make essential fatty acids, red blood cells and hemoglobin and neurotransmitters in the brain including converting tryptophan to serotonin your ‘happy’ hormones. It has been used to treat carpal tunnel syndrome, autism, PMS and anemia.

Vitamin B12 has extensive research for the treatment of brain health with promising research in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Methylcobalamin the active coenzyme form of B12 is essential for the methylation cycle in the body. Methylcobalamin is used in the treatment of peripheral neuropathy and diabetic neuropathy (nerve pain).

Vitamin B9 called folic acid or folate and is needed to form new red blood cells, the synthesis and repair of DNA and to prevent dementia. Folate is recommended before a woman becomes pregnant to reduce the risk of neural tube defects such as spina bifida in the fetus. One in 3 have a genetic mutation that impairs the ability to convert folate to L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate (L-5-MTHF) the active form found in nature. L-5-MTHF also plays a role in serotonin, and estrogen metabolism. Cancers of the colon and breast and cervical dysplasia are also associated with low L-5-MTHF. Detoxification of mercury, lead, arsenic and tin and estrogen require L-5-MTHF. A toxic build-up of estrogens increases the risk of breast cancer, uterine fibroids and endometriosis. Low L-5-MTHF worsens allergy and stress-related symptoms. High homocysteine is associated with cardiovascular disease. L-5-MTHF is required to detoxify high homocysteine. We have both folate and L-5-MTHF in Bsmart complex because prenatal research has mainly used folate in their studies.

Vitamin B7 also called biotin is another B vitamin that is involved in the metabolism of protein, carbohydrates and fats and aids the production of collagen in the skin, hair, nails, tendons and joints.

Choline and Inositol: are often classified as B vitamins although they are not essential. Choline aids the movement of lipids across cell membranes and the manufacture the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Inositol has anti-depressant and anti-anxiety action, reduces mood-associated PMS symptoms and helps normalize glucose metabolism. Inositol also found as myo-inositol can not be converted into d-chiro-inositol in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Women with PCOS should use GLUCOsmart containing d-chiro-inositol for fertility.
